In order to address the growing number of families with school age children, the City Commission chose
to take an aggressive approach to meet its changing demographics. Doors opened Fall of 2003 to the
City's first Charter Elementary School built adjacent to the new Community/Recreation Center. The
45,000 square foot state-of-the-art school serves 600 Aventura schoolchildren from kindergarten to 5th
grade and is the first municipal-run charter school in Miami-Dade County.
